I was diagnosed with Crohns disease at the age of 17 during my senior year in High School. I went to the Cleveland Clinic and they confirmed my small town doctors diagnosis. I was put on cortisone. Last October I turned 71 and I am still taking Prednisone (5 mg.) daily. In 1984 my small intestine was closing in 6 areas. Dr of the Cleveland Clinic performed an extensive surgery on me and this surgery literally saved my life. He informed me that at that time it was the worst case he had ever seen. Living with Crohns has been a challenge but I believe you must remain positive. I have had many jobs during my lifetime. I never told my employers that I had Crohns and I would have to leave my job when I would have a bad flairup. In 1974 I started a new job as a real estate broker /salesman in Florida. (My home since 1964) Being a salesman allowed me to relax when I needed to and work hard during my good health periods. On January 1st, 2009 I retired. It would be nice to write a book on my life with Crohns but I would need an accomlplished writer to put my thoughts on paper. My advice is to maintain a good attitude and a pleasant personality. Count your blessings! If there is a writer out there who would be interested in working on a book regarding my 55 years with Crohns please contact me.Nilesboy@cfl.rr.com
