Around the first of this year (2010) I was stricken with the worst abdominal pain and diarrhea that I have ever had in my life. I was on the couch for about 10 days. this happened following a prolonged bout with a severe ear infection and several different courses of anti-biotics. My initial thoughts were of c-diff. Testing resulted in a negative to the c-diff so I was scheduled for a colonoscopy. Results there informed me that I had ulcerative colitis.

The fact that I was coming out of sedation prevented my doctor from having an indepth discussion with me regarding what  uc really meant. Taking prednisone 40mg per day and asacol 6 pills per day. On my follow up the good doctor informed me that I will be taking these for the duration of my life and that I would have to take immunoseppressants. I refuse to take immunosuppressants. The colectomy sounds much better to me, so on I go with the steroids and asacol. I will take it day by day. Wish me luck.
