My 5 yo was just diagnosed with Crohn's
Posted: Jun 30, 2010

Hello. My name is Sabrina and my 5 year old son Jasper was just diagnosed with crohns.  we just got the biopsy report today.  I have mixed feelings at this point, on one side i am glad we finally have a proper diagnosis and on the other side i am sad my little boy is going to have to live with this for the rest of his life.  He is a tough cookie and at this point he has been a trooper.  He has had so much pain, waking up screaming in the middle of the night, constant fevers of 101 and more, the bleeding, vomiting and just feeling so terrible.  He has learned to cope with it thus far but when he started waking in the middle of the night screaming it was *** all of us.  We were all so frustrated that they couldn't figure out what was wrong with him.  They kept saying it was his reflux or that it was a virus.  All those visits to the emergency room for nothing.  We finally took him to the denvers childrens hospital and after two visits they were able to find what has been taking control of jaspers life for the last 5 years.  We knew it was some bowel and stomach issue but we didn't realize how severe it really was until now.

Now we just have to maintain and try to do the best that we can with it.  I have had bowel and stomach issues most of my life as well but i was really hoping i didn't pass them on to my children.  At least i can help my son through it from a personal persona.  We will make it through this together!  I am looking forward to getting his new medicine so he can actually start gaining weight and stop looking like a skeleton!  I don't like being able to count every bone in his body when has his shirt off.  I thank all of you for listening and i am looking forward to having more support for me and my son from others who understand what we are feeling and going through!!  Thank you all!!
