60 year old female in good health and physical condition has a colonoscopy because she hadn't had one in over 10 years. Results come back excellent, no polyps or any concern - they say not to reschedue next one for another 10 years. 6 days later, she wakes up in the middle of the night with enormous pain in lower gut and poops a huge stool. Nausea and vomitting ensus. More trips to the toilet result in pooping blood without stool or diarrhea - just blood and clots - multiple times with continuing right side cramping and nausea and vomiting. She goes to ER, they take blood samples (no anomalies) and conduct lower GI CT scan. Stated diagnosis is colitis.
Does that make sense? What would a CT scan show that would rule in colitis? And, what type of colitis?
Is it just a coincidence that a person with no GI issue history and a clean colonoscopy starts rectal bleeding 7 days after a colonoscopy and a massively painful stool, and that is considered colitis??

"Colitis" is a generic term for inflammation in the colon, but does not indicate the cause, severity, or exact location. Ulcerative colitis and Crohn's Disease are two main forms of IBD (Inflammatory Bowel Disease), but a further workup would probably be needed to determine if the patient has either. Common sense tells me that with a clean colonoscopy and no previous symptoms, this could be a complication from the procedure. If the bleeding etc does not abate, you might want to find a competent gastroenterologist with an available appointment in the immediate future.
